UC San Diego Assessment

Assessment comes in many shapes and sizes. Different purposes and different settings might require different policies, procedures and approaches. Systematic assessments often involve campus-wide participation and coordination (such as academic program assessment and program review). Course-embedded assessments take place when an instructor conducts a study on how much students have learned and what can be improved.

At UC San Diego, assessment is practiced and incorporated in programs and initiatives, from the institutional level to the course level. Examples include learning outcomes assessment embedded in UC San Diego's WSCUC Accreditation, Student Affairs program assessment, organizational performance assessment, research and evaluation of externally funded educational programs/projects, and course assessment conducted by individual faculty members.
